Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common word-game questions about unscrambling, tile word games, and how WordCombi works.
How does the WordCombi unscrambler work?
Type your scrambled letters into the search box and click Solve. WordCombi checks your letters against a large English dictionary and instantly lists valid words you can form, grouped by length. All results are filtered to be family-friendly, so profanity and explicit terms are excluded.
How many two-letter words are there?
Official tournament word lists contain around 100 to 107 two-letter words, depending on the list. Memorizing these is one of the fastest ways to score in tile word games because short words let you play alongside existing tiles.
What are the highest-scoring letters?
In most tile word games, Q and Z are worth 10 points each, followed by J and X at 8 points. These high-value letters can dramatically increase your score, especially when played on bonus squares like Triple Letter or Triple Word.
What is an anagram?
An anagram is a word or phrase formed by rearranging the letters of another word, using all the original letters exactly once. For example, LISTEN is an anagram of SILENT. Our Anagram Maker finds exact anagrams of any word you enter.
Are there Q words without U?
Yes. There are several valid words that contain Q but not U, such as QI, QAT, FAQIR, and QOPH. These are very useful because the Q is worth 10 points and most players struggle to use Q without a U.
How do letter points differ between word games?
Different tile word games use different point scales. For example, in some games B, C, M, and P are worth 4 points, H, G, and V are worth 3 to 5 points, and Q and Z are worth 10. Use our Word Game Helper to see exact scores for your rack.
Can I use proper nouns in word games?
No. Standard tournament rules generally do not allow proper nouns, abbreviations, or hyphenated words. Only words found in the agreed-upon dictionary are valid. WordCombi uses a general English dictionary, so always verify tournament acceptability with the official word list.
What is the best strategy for word games?
Learn the two- and three-letter words, save high-value letters for bonus squares, look for common prefixes (RE, UN, IN) and suffixes (ING, ED, ER), and try to play parallel to existing words to score multiple small words at once.
Are the word lists on WordCombi official?
No. WordCombi uses a curated, family-friendly English dictionary for entertainment and general assistance. It may not include every valid word, and results should be verified against an official tournament dictionary in competitive settings. WordCombi is not responsible for any game outcome.
Is WordCombi safe for kids?
WordCombi is a general-audience site, and content filtering is best-effort rather than a guarantee that every result is suitable. Automated filtering may miss terms or exclude legitimate ones, and some medical or scientific terms may appear. Adults who allow children to use the site should supervise that use, including definition lookups and external links. See our Content Policy and Privacy Policy for details.
